Detail Werkz - BMW M5

I picked up this 07 BMW M5 around 930am friday and drove it back to my studio for my Platinum Gloss treatment. Here are a few shots as it sat before any work. It was too dirty to really see how bad the paint was but you could tell it was swirled up pretty good. The owner confessed that he did not have time to wash it his self so he has been taking it to a few different hand wash car washes and you could tell!

We first wanted to strip off any old wax that was on the car, so we did our Dawn foam bath and washed the car twice with the 2 bucket method.

Once we had the car fully hand washed, we broke out the GI Lavender claybar and clayed the car and glass.

Once we had the car clayed we washed it again to remove any clay contamination and started to dry the vehicle. We used our water blades, followed by microfiber waffle weave drying towel and finishing up using the leaf blowers to remove any hidden water that might run out and mess up the compound and polish applications.

Once we had it dried, we started to assess the paint condition in the Texas sun. The sun was not fully exposed from behind the clouds but even at that you could see the swirls and RIDS showing in the paint.

The client wanted our Platinum Gloss treatment so we knew we were not going for 100% correction but more in the range of 70% to 80% correction.

So I pulled the M5 into my garage studio and onto my 4 post lift to start the correction process.

You can see the swirls and RIDS in the halogen lights that I have installed in my studio.

Got out my trusty "Light of Truth" LED light and walked around snapping some shots of what we could see.

Due to the time constraints of this detail, I opted to use the Cyclo, orange pads and the GI Extreme Cut followed by the GI Evolution Polish Beta. I put on my Fenix head band and went to work on a test panel. The GI combo worked flawlessly and we achieved 100% correction in removal of the swirls and broke down around 80% - 90% removal of the RIDS.

From this...

To this...

Once you remove the swirls and imperfections in the paint, the paint takes on a whole new color and depth is obtained.

I continued to work my way around the vehicle. Chris the newest addition to the Detail Werkz family assisted me in this correction detail. Together we worked on this car using the Cyclo mainly and the Makita for some nasty swirls and RIDS in the hood and top trunk lid.

Chris working the Cyclo and the GI polishes to work out the paint swirls and RIDS.

Here are some more random shots of the vehicles paint as we continued to work on the correction treatment.

Here are some shots of the drivers door after Chris finished up the correction process.

The vehicle lift makes paint correction so much more enjoyable as you are able to lift the subject to your hight and not have to hurt your back trying to see what you are doing.

These are shots of the hood prior to any correction. The hood was really swirled up good so I got out the makita and using the GI white pad and the GI Extreme cut I started out at 900, sprayed my pad with the EVP prime and jumped up the speed to 3000 and worked till I was happy with my results and dropped back down to 900 to help jewel and remove any buffer marks. Chris followed me up with the Cyclo and the GI Evolution Polish Beta to remove any micro-swirls that might have been in the paint.

Here is a 50/50 shot of the correction process.

And a few after correction shots of the hood.

After shot...

Only just a few RIDS remained and since we were not trying for 100% correction here we continued around the rest of the vehicle.

The passenger side was not as bad as the driver side but still was showing swirls and some RIDS in the paint.

Again its nice to have the luxury of the vehicle lift as I can work on the lower areas of the paint and not hurt my back and neck and with the lights in my studio I can really see exactly what I am trying to work out.

Once we had the paint correction competed we pulled the M5 out in the alley to access the paint in the Texas sun. It looked great!!

We then pulled the M5 back onto the landing and started to apply the Signature Gloss using the 7424 and the GI blue pad. Once we applied the Signature Gloss we applied 2 coats of the Concorso Gloss polish again using the 7424 and the GI blue pad.

I snapped a few shots of my outside halogen spot light in the paint of the vehicle.

We finished up the polish applications and finished up with the GI Gloss Enhancer. The interior was cleaned using the GI Satin Leather Cleaner and all the vinyl, rubber and plastic items were treated with the GI T.R.V. The leather seats were topped with the GI Satin Leather Polish.

Here are the final shots just before the sun was setting.

The client was more than shocked to see the car once we had completed our Platinum Gloss treatment. He did not think it was going to clean up so well. Looks like we scored another long term client for Detail Werkz thanks to the Gloss It Car Care Products!!

Total time with two guys was 7 hours.

GI Products used in this detail were:

GI Extreme Cut Polish
GI Evolution Polish Beta
GI EVP Prime
GI Signature Gloss Polish
GI Concorso Gloss Polish
GI Satin Leather Cleaner
GI Satin Leather Polish
