I have to laugh out loud at this one! I was called by a local shop to get a car ready for a magazine photo shoot. I was not told much but that it was a donk. If you do not know the defination of Donk. According to Wikipedia a Donk or better know as a High-Riser.
Hi-risers originally grew out of the Dirty South drug, pimp and hip hop subculture but the trend has spread across the United States. Vehicles customized in the hi-riser style are distinguished by their oversized (even disproportionate) rims, ranging from 22" to 30" or more in diameter, as well as fanciful custom paint-jobs and expensive audio equipment. Suspension modifications similar to those employed on lifted pickup trucks are made to give adequate clearance for the large rims. Often the suspension is modified so the front end sits slightly higher than the rear end, giving the car a swaggering appearance. Because of the exaggerated look gained from installing a lifted suspension and enormous rims, donks are also known as "hi-risers" or "sky-scrapers."
Now that the history lesson is over. They needed this car to really look good for the magazine. I found out that the owner parks this out front his house so it is not garaged. I could not believe this as the wheels alone were 30K, the paint was 15K, the interior was 10K and the Donk suspension was another 15K!! WOW.. is all I could say.
So this car felt like sandpaper. It had not seen a good detail in some time. The paint was really good and was color sanded properly and I could not see any orange peel at all. I knew this was going to scream when I finished with it.
We had to do everything in the showroom because it was 28 degrees out side and was sleeting/raining. So we used the gloss enhancer and the lavender clay and clayed panel by panel. Once we had the paint nice and smooth, I used the Evolution Polish with my cyclo and green pads to jewel the finish. Once I had the paint jeweled I applied the
Signature Gloss using the 7424. I really worked the signature in the paint overlapping several times till the polish was almost invisible. I then overlayed a coat of
Gloss Finish and let it cure while we knocked out the interior.
Boy what an interior. The dash and doors were fiberglassed and painted the same color as the car. I applied the
Gloss Finish on these parts by hand and we used the
Satin Leather Cleaner on all the leathers and vinyls in the car. Not to mention the ostrich skin on the doors and centers of the seats. We then applied
T.R.V. on all these items and applied the
Satin Leather Polish on the seats and ostrich skin.
I applied Zaino Z12 Chrome polish on the 30 inch DUB rims and applied the
Signature Tire Dressing to the massive tires.
We took off the polishes from the paint and finished up by spraying the paint with the
Gloss Enhancer. I sure wish I could have seen how this car looks outside in the sun, because in the light of the showroom it was popping HARD!
Anyways enjoy this rare customized vehicle. Looks like Detail Werkz will get to have our name in the magazine so that will be sweet!
Gloss on!
