Actually we just could not do it in his drive way due to his step driveway, so we had to do it in the street. I would have preferred to be in his driveway, but a bit of exposure never hurts.
Things are different around here. All the runoff just goes into the sewer, same as the sinks in your kitchen. So if you wash your plates with Dawn soap to clean them, really not much different when we are washing the paint with Dawn.
But as I said, no one complains about run off, and we don't have much of it. I have some snakes that I put down by the drains to catch any oil..etc. runoff.
In my 7 years of mobile detailing I have only been given a warning once and that was only because of a office building complained about the noise of our generator..etc.. and called the city and they had to respond and make the call. The lady was cool and said just finish up quickly and get out and don't come back for a bit.
Now If I had a shop I would just invest in a capture matt and be done with it all, reclaim my water and osmosis it.
When we use our high-pressure washer system off our trucks we use less than 1 gallon of water for the whole vehicle wash. I really don't like the high-pressure and resort to the low pressure that does use about 20 gallons of water per wash vehicle. Just depends where we are at and what type of vehicle we are working on to determine if we use high or low pressure water.
